1891-02-16 (90lbs) Harry Munro w co 8 (finish) Young Russell, London, England. Referee: George Johnson. Held in the east-end of London on a private show, and billed for the world and English 90lb titles, with two-ounce gloves the order of the day, Russell, who was three inches taller, used his extra reach to win the opening session before progressing well as the bout swung first one way and then the other. Whether Russell, who should not be confused with his namesake, Jack of Stepney, lost concentration or not in the eighth is debatable, but after being caught by a heavy right to the jaw he was counted out.
