1891-03-19 (110lbs) Martin Flaherty w rsc 26 (finish) Link Pope, Lenore, Streator, Illinois, USA. Referee: Lou Houseman. According to the Chicago Tribune this was contested in skin-tight gloves and billed for the American 110lbs title, with Flaherty recognised as champion. Fighting fiercely throughout, from round 20 onwards Flaherty hit Pope at will, knocking him down several times before the referee called it off at the end of the 26th.

Due to meet Tommy Spider Kelly in Hoboken, New Jersey on 4 September to decide the American 110lbs title, after Flaherty failed to show he fought at a higher weight from then on.
