Billed for the 122lbs world title, after Griffin (121) had dropped Weir (120) three times in the third round and had downed the latter twice more in the fourth the fight was interrupted by the police. Fighting in small gloves, when the men tried to resume it was again stopped by the police and this time it was for keeps. Following this, on 1 June it was announced that Weir had accepted an offer from the Granite Club, Hoboken, New Jersey to meet Griffin at 122lbs within the next four weeks, but nothing came of it and he immediately set his sights on his former conqueror, Torpedo Billy Murphy.
