1891-07-22 (126lbs) Young Griffo w disq 22 (finish) Torpedo Billy Murphy, York Street AC, Sydney, Australia. Referee: W. R. Virgoe. Billed for the world 126lbs title, the Sydney Steamer reported that Murphy (116), outweighed by some seven pounds, forced affairs from the jump but despite his tremendous efforts to knock Griffo (123) out he was eventually ruled out on a 22nd round disqualification. It was reported that never had Murphy fought a more manly battle and regardless of the fact that he was repeatedly fouled he continued to fight on, preferring to win on his merits. Unfortunately for him, with Griffo failing to show the same spirit, after Murphy had the Australian on his knees and then struck him in his excitement he was ruled out amidst great dissatisfaction.
