1891-07-28 (115/116lbs) George Dixon w co 5 (finish) Abe Willis, California AC, San Francisco, California, USA. Referee: Hiram Cook. Billed for the world 115lbs title, using regulation gloves, Dixon (114½) hit too hard and too often for the game Willis (115), knocking him down in the first round and the fifth before landing with another heavy right to the jaw to enforce the count out in the same session. In England on 5 December, George Mendoza outpointed Bob White over seven rounds at the Goodwin Club, Shoreditch, London to win a 116lbs championship competition and Dave Phillips challenged all England at the weight on 9 December.
