1891-11-30 (142lbs) [[Harry Nickless]] w co 9 (20) [[Bill Hatcher]], Bolingbroke Club, Clapham, London, England. Referee: Robert Watson. Billed for the English 142lbs championship, the men were quickly at work and in the second round Nickless (139¾), his right eye already cut, almost had Hatcher (140) down with a series of right hands to the jaw. Again, in the fifth, Hatcher, his eyes closing fast, was almost floored but despite being hurt he continued to mock Nickless’ efforts. At the end of the ninth it was a rapidly tiring Nickless who appeared to be in a worse plight than Hatcher and although both men had slowed considerably it was the former who found the strength to drop his rival for the full count. It was a big left to the body followed by a right to the jaw that did the damage.
