1891-12-29 (132lbs) Austin Gibbons w rsc 48 (finish) Andy Bowen, Metropolitan Club, New Orleans, Louisiana, USA. Referee: John Duffy. Made at 132lbs with both men inside, it was a light hitting, tame affair up until the 20th round when it began to warm up. The fight came to a halt in the 48th session after the referee rescued Bowen, who was writhing in agony on the ropes after being badly hurt by a body punch. Despite losing to Kid Lavigne at 135lbs Gibbons continued his championship claim at 132lbs, but never made the weight again.
