1892-02-29 (132lbs) Stanton Abbott w co 12 (20) Harry Overton, NSC, Covent Garden, London, England. Referee: Bernard J. Angle. Billed for the English 132lbs title, although both men showed plenty of cleverness it was Abbott (130½) who took an early lead when boxing well on the counter while Overton (131½) pressed forward. By the tenth it was it was noticeable that Overton was becoming weak from his exertions and in the 11th Abbott, almost as fresh as when he started, went for home. It was in the 12th, however, that Abbott’s patience paid off when, after having Overton staggering from a severe bout of punches, lefts and rights sent him down to be counted out.

A championship competition saw Wag Andrews force Frank Young to retire in the fifth round at the Goodwin Club, Shoreditch, London on 12 March.
