1892-06-27 (146lbs) [[Dick Burge]] w co 2 (20) [[Lachie Thomson]], Social Club, Kennington, London, England. Referee: George Vize. Made at 146lbs for the English title, following a relatively quiet opening round Burge (137½) turned on the power in the second to first stagger Thomson (142) and then drop him with a right cross to the jaw. Although Thomson somehow made it to his feet two further heavy blows to the point saw him counted out after he had been sent to his knees with his right arm twisted round the top rope. According to the ''Licensed Victuallers Gazette'' and ''Newcastle Daily Chronicle'', Burge gave away six pounds to his rival, while the ''The Sportsman'' showed Burge to be 138lbs and Thomson 145. The poundage used was as reported in the ''Sporting Life''.
