1892-07-30 (142lbs) Tommy Ryan drew 17 (finish) Jack Wilkes, South Omaha AC, Germania Hall, Omaha, Nebraska, USA. Referee: Frank Parmalee. Reported by the Omaha World-Herald to be for the American 142lbs welter title, the referee declared a draw after the police intervened at the beginning of round 17 following pressure from Wilkes’ supporters who were on the verge of losing their wagers. Contested in skin-tight gloves, Ryan (141) had knocked Wilkes (141) down in the eighth and in the 15th and 16th sessions he had repeatedly sent in solid uppercuts to the latter’s head and body. The Ring Record Book gave the result as being a kayo win for Ryan.
