1892-09-26 (142/144lbs) William Robinson w rtd 8 (20) Alf Suffolk, NSC, Covent Garden, London, England. Referee: Tom Anderson. Billed for the English 144lbs championship, Robinson (142) assumed an aggressive role and in the sixth round he brought Suffolk to the boards just as time was called. Prior to that, both men had landed solidly to head and body. Early in the seventh Robinson twice fought Suffolk down Robinson, and in the last minute of the session he did whatever he wished before leaving his rival on the boards as the round came to an end. Still badly dazed Suffolk was retired after the bell to start the eighth, being in no fit condition to continue.
The very next day Robinson was claiming the English 142 and 144lb titles on his victory. Robinson, who was looking to defend against Dick Burge at 142lbs, was challenged by Austin Gibbons and Harry Neumier, both domiciled in America, while George Baxter (September 1893) challenged the world at the weight.
