1892-11-08 (130lbs) Young Griffo drew 25 (finish) Martin Denny, Darlinghurst Skating Rink, Sydney, Australia. Referee: Mr Diamond. With Griffo (129) unable to make 126lbs anymore this was billed for the world 130lbs title, and according to the Brisbane Courier it was expected to be one of the best fights ever seen in the colonies. The paper went on to say that there was no real fighting done throughout except for a couple of sessions at most, the remainder being nothing more than a good scientific exhibition of boxing. After a round or two when it was clear that both Griffo and Denny (129) were very clever, with neither suffering any damage, and it was shaping up to be a long night the referee called it off at the end of the 25th, announcing that he had decided on a draw.
In the aftermath, both men laid claim to the world title at the weight.
