1892-12-29 (118lbs) Solly Smith w rtd 14 (finish) Johnny Van Heest, California AC, San Francisco, California, USA. With both men inside 118lbs, Smith, holding on to his American title claim at the weight, dropped Van Heest several times before the latter was retired by his corner after being put down by a heavy right and banging his head heavily on the floor. Meantime, over the water on 4 January, Tommy Walker challenged all England at 118lbs.
