1893-03-06 (102lbs) Walter Croot w co 11 (20) Bill Bolton, NSC, Covent Garden, London, England. Referee: J. Fleming. Made at 102lbs, even though Bolton (105) came in three pounds over the weight the fight went ahead, the latter being conspicuous for his body punching as Croot (102) concentrated on speed and reaching the head. In the ninth it was Croot who scored heavily to the ribs, and there followed some heavy returns before the latter crossed his right to Bolton’s jaw in the 11th to bring about a count out. Up to that point Bolton had looked the stronger.

On the result, Croot claimed the English 102lbs title regardless of the fact that Bill Mortimer had a better right to it at that moment.
