1893-04-06 (130lbs) Andy Bowen drew 110 (finish) Texas Jack Burke, Olympic Club, New Orleans, Louisiana, USA. Referee: John Duffy. Billed for the lightweight championship of the South, Bowen (129) was now claiming the American title at both 130 and 133lbs. It was a good fight while they were relatively fresh, Bowen being down twice in the 23rd round and again in the 25th, while Burke (130) was dropped in the 48th. However, there was little fighting done after the 93rd. Although Bowen was doing the forcing he was unable to do any further damage to a man who appeared to have broken both of his hands, the referee announcing that unless a result was shortly forthcoming he would declare a draw. With nothing really going on in the next five sessions that is exactly what he did, much to the chagrin of Bowen’s supporters who were expecting a win.
Interestingly, this is the longest recorded glove fight on record, lasting seven hours, 19 minutes.
