1893-05-01 (102lbs) Pedlar Palmer w co 17 (20) Walter Croot, NSC, Covent Garden, London, England
1 May (102lbs) Pedlar Palmer w co 17 (20) Walter Croot, NSC, Covent Garden, London, England. Referee: George Vize. Billed for the English 102lbs title, Palmer (101), in his first big fight, quickly went to work using the left jab to head and body while moving adroitly around the ring. As brightly as Palmer started, Croot (100) was not going to let him take liberties and before the end of the opening round he had put the Canning Town lad over following a solid left jab to the face. Not perturbed, Palmer came back strongly with his jabbing and general movement making it difficult for Croot to catch up with him. With Croot concentrating on the body he continued to rush to close quarters, where he was more often than not boxed off, and as he tired Palmer began to take over. The fight came to an end in the 17th when Croot was caught by a solid blow to the jaw on the break and crashed to the floor to be counted out.
