1893-07-10 (122lbs) Solly Smith w co 4 (finish) Johnny Griffin, Columbian AC, Roby, Indiana, USA. Billed for the American (world) 122lbs title, both men landed heavily to head and body in the opening three rounds, with Smith hurt and groggy by the end of the third. Coming out for the fourth, Griffin seized on Smith’s weakness to drop him with a body punch. Getting up, seemingly all at sea, Smith swung wildly at his man before striking him full in the face, a blow that saw Griffin felled like a log to be counted out.
