1893-08-07 (120lbs) George Dixon w co 3 (20) Eddie Pierce, Coney Island AC, Brooklyn, NYC, New York, USA. Referee: Johnny Eckhardt. Billed for the American and world 120lbs titles, and carrying the Police Gazette Championship Belt on the result, Dixon (116) played cat and mouse with Pierce (120) for two rounds before knocking him down four times in the third, prior to landing a hard right to the jaw which concluded his evening’s work.

On 20 September, in England, Bill Baxter, despite being more or less retired, continued to claim the English 120lbs championship, a claim that persisted way into 1896.
