1893-11-27 (110lbs) Alf Gower w rsc 3 (20) Fred Locke, NSC, Covent Garden, London, England. Referee: Bernard J. Angle. Billed for the English 110lbs title, with Locke (110lbs) reported to be the holder, Gower (108lbs), who was making his comeback after four years out of the ring, was advertised as the 108lbs champion. It was seen very quickly that Gower was the stronger man, Locke being sent to the boards no less than seven times in the second round before coming up for the third. Once again Gower maintained a terrific pace, never giving Locke a moment's rest, and after the latter had been floored four more times the referee called the fight off.
Other men to challenge all England at 110lbs were Bill Norton (January 1894), Alf Gunning and George Corfield (March 1894), while George Winters won a championship competition at the St Andrew’s Hall, Westminster, London on 21 April 1894 when outpointing Harry Camis over four rounds in the final.
