9 December (110lbs) James Kaveny w co 1 (6) Charley Kelly, The Casino, Boston, Massachusetts, USA. Referee: John Eckhardt. Made at 110lbs, this contest was described by The Boston Post as one of the hottest seen in those parts for many a day. It started off at fair pace and Kaveny (110¾) soon had Kelly (110) down with a right to the jaw early on, only to be dropped himself immediately afterwards. Put down for the second time, Kaveny held on gamely to Kelly before a fierce mix-up ensued and ended after the latter had been floored twice before being counted out with 14 seconds of the first round remaining. Despite a lack of billing and the fact that he was over the weight in a mere six rounder, Kaveny claimed the American 110lbs title following his victory.
