1894-06-04 (130lbs) Martin Denny w pts 20 Bill Eyles, NSC, Covent Garden, London, England. Referee: Bernard J. Angle. Involving Denny’s 130lbs world title claim, Eyles (127½) opened up confidently when chasing his rival round the ring but was unable to do much damage. By the third round Denny (129½), showing great cleverness and adroitness, was in front and although he never took any chances he maintained that lead as Eyles continually tried to upset him without too much success. Prior to coming up for the last round looking almost as fresh as when he started, Denny remained content to box his way to victory on the back foot despite calls of “have a round”.
