5 June (106lbs) Bill Mortimer w co 13 (20) Alf Buckingham, Ormonde Club, Epsom, England. Referee: J. T. Hulls. Although there were no weights reported, the match was seen to be an integral part of Mortimer’s English 106lbs title claim and he got down to work from the opening gong before eventually sitting Buckingham down in the fifth. The seventh was the best round of the fight, with both men going at a terrific pace, but from thereon it was Mortimer’s to lose. Buckingham was marked up badly by the ninth and after being floored three times in the 12th he was all at sea in the 13th prior to being counted out.
