1894-07-31 (100lbs) Jack Pearson w pts 20 James Carlin, Norfolk Road Drill Hall, Sheffield, England
31 July (100lbs) Jack Pearson w pts 20 James Carlin, Norfolk Road Drill Hall, Sheffield, England. Referee: George M. Wells. Billed for the English 100lbs title, the complete report in the Sporting Life stated that Pearson never allowed Carlin a moment’s rest and was an easy winner at the final bell. Pearson’s claim, however, was not taken seriously outside of Manchester.
It was later reported that Pearson and Peter McDermott, both inside 100lbs, had fought a 20-round draw at the Ancient Concert Rooms, Dublin, Ireland 11 days earlier on 19 July, but this has never been substantiated. Meanwhile, Harry Ware and Dave Job also issued challenges to all at the weight in September, despite Mike Small carrying most favour at 100lbs according to the Sporting Life.
