1894-09-10 (110lbs) George Corfield w rtd 12 (20) Alf Gower, Norfolk Road Drill Hall, Sheffield, England. Billed for the English 110lbs title using four-ounce gloves, Corfield (109¾) soon got down to work with the left jab never being far from his rival’s face, and following some lively exchanges in the third he put Gower (109) down with a right to the neck. Up until the 11th round Corfield had matters very much his own way, using the left at great speed, and in the 12th he battered Gower to such an extent that the latter was retired at the end of the session.
On 20 October at the Central Hall, Holborn, London, Fred Locke won an English championship competition, outpointing Bill Bolton over four rounds in the final, while another man who would not lie down, Bill Moore, was continuing to call himself the English 110lbs champion.
