1894-10-08 (158lbs) Frank Craig w co 2 (finish) John O’Brien, NSC, Covent Garden, London, England. Referee: Bernard J. Angle. Billed for the British version of the world 158lbs title, it was Craig’s debut in England and he certainly did not waste much time. Earlier, Craig had claimed the world title after all the American white middleweights refused to fight him in anything other than four round contests. Forced down at the end of the opening round, by that time O’Brien (158) probably knew what was coming. Springing at O’Brien like a tiger, Craig opened up in the second in determined fashion and after being dropped by lefts and rights to the jaw four times the gallant Welshman was sent down again and counted out at 1.32 of the session. On 17 November, Dido Plumb won a 158lbs championship contest when knocking out Alec Young in the second round at the Central Hall, Holborn, London.
