1894-10-29 (140lbs) Tom Williams w co 2 (20) Johnny Boyle, NSC, Covent Garden, London, England. Referee: Bernard J. Angle. Made at 140lbs, Williams (138), a claimant of the world title at the weight, proved to be too good for the little-known Boyle (137) despite receiving an early knock to his reputation. Looking too anxious to settle matters quickly twice Williams went to the boards after missing with punches, and then, adding to his embarrassment, Boyle dropped him with a left to the jaw. Subsequently, it was all one way as Williams lashed into Boyle, the latter being dropped twice before the bell came to his rescue. Somehow Boyle made it up for the second round, actually hurting Williams before he was sent down for the full count following a right to the side of the head.
