1894-11-19 (138lbs) Jack McAuliffe nc 3 (finish) Owen Ziegler, Atlantic AC, Brooklyn, NYC, New York, USA. Referee: John Eckhardt. In a match made at 138lbs, McAuliffe set a terrific pace but after breaking his left hand in the second round and lying on the ropes exhausted in the third the fight was stopped by the police. Most reporters in attendance felt that the stoppage rescued the champion from almost certain defeat. Although McAuliffe was still recognised as the lightweight champion according to the New York Herald, he announced his retirement from the ring the following month.
