1894-12-03 (102lbs) Mike Small w rsc 18 (20) Ernest Pickard, NSC, Covent Garden, London, England. Referee: Bernard J. Angle. Billed for the English 102lbs title, having met each other in short distance bouts on six occasions with honours about even it was expected to be a lively affair. Although Pickard showed up better in the early rounds, Small kept to his work and eventually floored his man in the 13th. By that stage of the fight Pickard had lost a lot of steam, Small continuing to land with both hands as his opponent wilted. In the 17th Small had Pickard over again, and after the latter was in a dazed condition on the floor in the 18th, having been put down heavily, the referee stopped the fight.

Two weeks later, on 15 December, at the Central Hall, Holborn, London, Jim Williams stopped Harry Ware inside two rounds in the final of a championship competition, while Bill Jones challenged the world on 21 February 1895.
