1894-12-17 (158lbs) Frank Craig w co 1 (10) Ted Pritchard, Central Hall, Holborn, London, England. Referee: Bernard J. Angle. Billed for the British version of the world 158lbs title despite being scheduled for only ten rounds, the fight lasted just 96 seconds. Both men had started carefully, not wanting to leave an opening, but after a fair bit of clinching in which Pritchard tried to work the body Craig found the mark to send him heavily on to the ropes. Somewhat dazed, Pritchard tried to cover up but before he could do so he was hammered to the floor by a straight right and counted out. Despite the result, a rematch was agreed at 158lbs and the pair were pencilled in to meet on 13 April 1895 at the same venue, only for John O’Brien to be drafted in at the last moment after Pritchard had been taken ill. Hastily rearranged for 20 two-minute rounds at catchweights, O’Brien entered the ring blind drunk before retiring on his stool at the end of the first round and effectively walking away from the sport thereafter.
