1895-01-18 (146lbs) [[Tommy Ryan]] w rsc 3 (15) [[Nonpareil Jack Dempsey]], Coney Island AC, Brooklyn, NYC, New York, USA. Referee: Tim Hurst. Billed for the title, Dempsey (142) was in such poor condition, having been dropped and being hit at will by Ryan (145), that the referee pulled him out of a contest that proved to be his last. Even before the referee acted the crowd were calling for it to be stopped, some even thinking that Dempsey was drunk. Less than a year later he was dead, the victim of tuberculosis.
