11 February (100lbs) Ernie Brady w co 12 (20) Charley Gledhill, Percy Street Cottage, Newcastle, England. Referee: Sam Franks. Billed for the English 100lbs title, despite Mike Small being widely accepted as the champion, Brady’s claim was a good one, and although he allowed Gledhill to make the early running by the sixth round it was clear that he carried more power than his rival. Gledhill was still going well in the 11th but was fast weakening, and in the next session he was put down twice by crashing right hands, the second time seeing him counted out.
On 5 March the Sporting Life restated that Small should be recognised as the best 100lbs man in England, and at the end of August he travelled to America to meet Johnny Connors, the American title claimant, in a finish fight to decide the world championship at the weight. Unfortunately, the fight was called off, and while Small could rightfully claim to be the world champion at 100lbs he decided to move up a weight division instead.
