1895-04-29 (124lbs) Fred Johnson w co 4 (20) Charlie Beadling, Peoples Palace, Newcastle, England. Referee: J. T. McNeill. Originally articled for the English 122lbs title, it was re-billed for the English 124lbs title at Beadling’s request, which looked a bit foolish when both men came in well under. Knocked down five times in the opening round Beadling (121) came back relatively well in the second, but after being floored heavily in the third he was at the mercy of Johnson (119), who soon found the punches to put his rival down and out before the session was over.

On 10 February 1896, Tom Ireland claimed the 124lbs English title but soon moved up in weight, while following a defeat at the hands of Ben Jordan on 22 February 1897 Johnson lost all recognition.
