1895-05-13 (98lbs) Jack Maloney w pts 20 Ernie Brady, Peoples’ Palace, Newcastle, England
13 May (98lbs) Jack Maloney w pts 20 Ernie Brady, Peoples’ Palace, Newcastle, England. Referee: Bernard J. Angle. This was a return meeting that was billed for the English 98lbs title. As in their previous contest, Maloney (96¼) again outboxed the hard-hitting Brady (97), who, after being second best and knocked down in the fourth by a solid left, began to look for a foul during several rough rounds that followed. Although the Westminster man was dropped by a right to the ear in the tenth he was soon back on his feet to thwart all of Brady’s wild efforts from thereon to the final bell. The fight had originally been set for 6 May in London before being moved up north when the promoter was unable to secure a venue.
While Maloney challenged the world at the weight another challenger for his title turned up in the shape of Harry Ware, who won a championship competition when outpointing Harry Ashley over four rounds at the NSC, Covent Garden, London on 23 September 1895.
