1895-06-03 (96lbs) Jack Maloney w pts 20 Charley Gledhill, Peoples’ Palace, Newcastle, England. Referee: T. J. McNeill. Billed for the 96lbs English title and made at 94lbs, give or take two pounds, having unsuccessfully tried to claim a foul for a low blow in the opening round Westminster’s Maloney made all the running and was well ahead by the 13th. Although Gledhill came on strong over the last third and began to gradually make up the deficit, Maloney fully deserved the win.

Following his victory, Maloney gave up his claim at 92lbs to 96lbs in order to box at a higher weight and Joe Bennett claimed the title in October 1895, while Ted Beach challenged all England in January 1896.
