1895-07-31 (126lbs) George Dixon w disq 4 (25) Tommy Connolly, Union AC, Boston, Massachusetts, USA. Referee: Bill Daly. With both men agreeing to make 126lbs on the night, Connolly looked a beaten man at the end of the third round, having been forced to take blows to head and body without respite, and he was soon over in the fourth. Then, with the referee in the process of counting him out, Connolly was disqualified when his second entered the ring knowing that his charge was finished. Following his victory, Dixon was claiming the title at all weights between 118 and 126lbs.
