1895-08-27 (128lbs) George Dixon w pts 25 Johnny Griffin, Suffolk AC, Boston, Massachusetts, USA. Referee: Bill Daly. Contested at 128lbs, Dixon again extended his claim in this one but had to go the full route to do so. Knocked down in the third, Griffin got back into the fight by the 15th before the pace slackened and the fight ran its course. The decision came as a surprise as it had generally been understood that if both men were still on their feet at the end of 25 rounds the result would be given as a draw.
