1895-09-09 (112lbs) George Corfield w co 18 (20) Nunc Wallace, Norfolk Road Drill Hall, Sheffield, England
9 September (112lbs) George Corfield w co 18 (20) Nunc Wallace, Norfolk Road Drill Hall, Sheffield, England. Both men were inside 112lbs, although the exact poundage was not declared, and Wallace got up to speed quickly, forcing the fight right through to the 18th when he weakened. From the very beginning Corfield had boxed on the back foot, but with Wallace in trouble from his own exertions the Sheffield man stormed into the attack and eventually put his rival down with a left to the jaw in the 18th. At this point Wallace, who was not the fighter of old, had nothing left and while making every effort to get up he was ultimately counted out. Despite a lack of billing, Corfield claimed the English 112lbs championship on his victory, while on 30 September Alf Gunning challenged the world at the weight.
