Made at 126lbs, Erne, who had knocked out the same opponent in seven rounds on 26 August (in Maspeth, New York), claimed the American title at the weight following this one. The fight was concluded by the referee after Skelly, who had been knocked down in the seventh and twice in the eighth, had been flattened with a straight left in the ninth.
