1895-10-15 (130lbs) Eddie Connolly w co 3 (10) Frank Garrard, Athletic Club, Cleveland, Ohio, USA. Referee: Walter C. Kelley. Made at 130lbs, both men scored well in the opening five minutes before Connolly found the range to have Garrard in some difficulty. Towards the end of the second round Garrard was twice dropped heavily and it was only the bell that saved him from being counted out. Although Garrard came up strong but cautious for the third he was soon put put down by a left to the head. Back on his feet Garrard was immediately dropped by a right uppercut and after getting up and clearly unable to defend himself the referee stopped the contest. Connolly claimed the American version of the 130lbs title a few days later, but unable to make that weight again without a struggle he was soon fighting in a higher weight class.
