1895-10-24 (133lbs) Jack Everhardt drew 25 Owen Ziegler, Olympic Club, New Orleans, Louisiana, USA. Referee: John Duffy. With both men inside 133lbs Everhardt’s title claim at the weight was at stake, and according to the Daily Picayune report he was lucky to get the draw. Throughout the action Ziegler looked the better man, several times having Everhardt groggy and on the point of defeat. In the 12th, after Everhardt was sent to his knees by a right to the jaw on getting up he was forced to take many heavy blows, being extremely fortunate to get through the round. Then, after being held and punched by Everhardt, Ziegler was dropped in the 20th and hit whilst down. Despite that, the local man did not receive any censure. Although the next two sessions saw Everhardt badly battered he somehow remained on his feet through to the final bell. The paper reported afterwards that while Everhardt was a fast and clever fighter, and a good judge of distance, he appeared to have gone backwards.
