1895-12-02 (126lbs) Tom Ireland w rtd 15 (20) Dave Wallace, NSC, Covent Garden, London, England. Referee: Bernard J. Angle. Although there was no 126lbs title billing attached, Ireland (125½) became yet another claimant of the English title at that weight following this win over Wallace (124½). Almost from the start Ireland was throwing himself at Wallace, but after being dropped by a right to the jaw in the fifth he assumed a more careful pose. Having being under some pressure in the seventh, Ireland found a right to the head that floored Wallace and from thereon he gradually wore the latter down. Just when it looked that Wallace was ready to go he found a big right to drop Ireland in the 14th, but it was only a temporary respite and at the end of the 15th he was felled by a left-right to the head. Carried back to his corner, Wallace was retired when it was quickly realised that he was in no fit state to continue.
