1895-12-02 (133lbs) Kid Lavigne w pts 15 Joe Walcott, Empire AC, Maspeth, Queens, NYC, New York, USA. Referee: Tim Hurst. Billed for the American 133lbs title, according to the articles of agreement Walcott (131½) had to kayo Lavigne (131½) if he wanted to win the championship. To get the fight Walcott had to boil down from around 142lbs, but it was he who had the gas and between the seventh and ninth rounds he forced Lavigne around the ring while handing out terrific punishment. Under normal conditions Walcott would have won, but Lavigne, who dished out heavy blows of his own, showed tremendous grit to make the final bell.
