1896-02-10 (140lbs) Arthur Valentine w disq 2 (20) Tom Lynch, NSC, Covent Garden, London, England. Made at 140lbs, Lynch (138) twice had Valentine (139) over in the opening round, being an odds-on favourite at the end of the session. In his desperation to win Lynch commenced with rough holding tactics on resuming hostilities in the second, and after being warned several times was disqualified when seizing Valentine by the neck and declining to break.

Regardless of the result, there were very few fights left for Valentine as a top-liner.
