1896-03-30 (100lbs) Harry McDermott w pts 20 Jack Maloney, Albert Hall, Jarrow, England. Referee: J. T. Hulls. Billed for the English 100lbs title, it was a fairly close affair with both men scoring well at times, but at the end it was McDermott (98½) who was given the decision. Westminster’s Maloney (99½) had not helped his cause much by going on the back foot in the last few rounds, and ultimately it was that tactic which counted against him.
