1896-04-22 (122lbs) Tommy Dixon w pts 20 Johnny Lavack, Eureka AC, Queens, NYC, New York, USA. Referee: Jimmy Carroll. Following his victory, with both men inside 122lbs Dixon claimed the American title at the weight and challenged the world despite George Dixon being seen as the champion of the weight class at that moment in time. The fight itself was brisk and even up until the eighth, but from there on in Dixon had a decided edge and although there were no knockdowns it was he who controlled things by the use of his excellent leading and general cleverness.
