1896-06-16 (126lbs) George Dixon drew 20 Martin Flaherty, West Newton Street Armory, Boston, Massachusetts, USA. Referee: Bill Daly. Dixon successfully held on to his 126lbs American title claim when holding off Flaherty (124½lbs), who also joined the list of claimants at the weight following the fight. It was a scientific contest that saw Flaherty match Dixon in both skill and punch rate and although there were no knockdowns the crowd remained engrossed with what they witnessed.
