1896-11-09 (130lbs) Harry Greenfield w rsc 9 (20) Jim Curran, Excelsior School of Arms, Sheffield, England. Referee: Ed Plummer. Reported as having English championship billing at 130lbs, it was a tremendous contest of wills while it lasted, with the men fighting each other all over the ring at times. While Greenfield looked to get his left home as often as possible, Curran, whose right eye was badly cut in the fourth, made the body his target and had plenty of success prior to the eighth. In the ninth it was Greenfield who looked the more dangerous and after twice dropping Curran with rights to the jaw the latter was rescued by the referee.
