1896-11-30 (102lbs) Walter Croot w co 11 (20) Mike Small, NSC, Covent Garden, London, England. Referee: Bernard J. Angle. Billed for the English 102lbs title, while both appeared to be in capital condition it was Croot (102) who gained the early initiative when twice sending Small (101) down on one knee in the second round. Not discouraged, Small met Croot punch for punch, but by the fifth he was having difficulty in keeping the latter away, especially on the inside. Becoming weaker and weaker, by the tenth Small was really up against it, and after being put down he came out for the 11th only to take another shellacking. This time though there was no let-up by Croot, who forced a count out after dropping Small with a right to the jaw following a sustained body attack.
