1896-12-11 (160lbs) Dan Creedon w rsc 9 (20) Dick O’Brien, Broadway AC, Brooklyn, NYC, New York, USA. Referee: Dick Roche. Although articled for 20 rounds at catchweights, Creedon’s 160lb title claim was at stake in this one after O’Brien, who had been in training for a fight with Joe Walcott, was well inside the 158lbs class limit. O’Brien was wonderfully game but not in Creedon’s class, taking a lot of punishment, and being pounded all round the ring in the ninth round when the referee stopped it. Although he tired and was out of condition, Creedon was the better fighter by far.
