1897-01-12 (160lbs) Dan Creedon w rsc 4 (20) Jim Williams, Myers AC, Park Street Rink, Albany, New York, USA. Referee: John Eckhardt. The Buffalo Courier reported the fight as being for the world 160lbs title between the champion, Creedon, who claimed to weigh 159lbs, and Williams (158). Following two heavy knockdowns in the fourth round from left-hand swings to the head, and having sustained a bad beating from there on, Williams was rescued by the referee just as the police were about to move in.

By March, however, Creedon admitted he could not get down to 160lbs anymore and in future would be boxing at 165lbs.
